A Zimbabwean woman has admitted to lying against a man who has been serving a 20-year rape term in prison for eight years.
Simbarashe Chadiwa was sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping a 10-year-old girl.
The victim now 18, came out clean after a string of misfortunes befell her and her family.
The woman went on to say that her confession was motivated by her mother’s recent death from an unidentified illness. She continued by saying that a witch doctor had advised her to act morally.
When they visited Harare Central jail with the good news last weekend, according to the serving inmate’s brother, Tapiwa Chadiwa, Simbarashe actually broke down.
Simbarashe and his friend visited the girl’s homestead, where the latter intended to see the family maid, who was his lover.
The girl’s mother was away in Botswana. When the mother returned, she queried why her daughter seemed to be having a limp in her walk.
This led to the chain of events that ended with the conviction.
