Thinking/Feeling is one of the Myers-Briggs personality types’ four main pairs of opposing qualities. Though we are all on a spectrum, we all have a preference for either Thinking or Feeling. But what exactly does that mean?

Being classified as a Thinker does not necessarily imply that you are an intellectual (just as being classified as a Feeler does not imply that you do not have a highly developed mind). It also does not imply that you have no feelings or care about other people.

Essentially, it indicates that you favor objective facts – things like numbers, statistics, and other pure data – especially when making decisions. It also implies that you favor logical reasoning over the complexities of emotion and the human factor.

When your career or other life scenario necessitates this data-driven approach, your capacity to recognize, assess, and act on the facts may be a terrific asset and offer you an advantage.

Feelers base their lives and decisions on their personal ideals, and they take into account the feelings and needs of others.

Don’t abandon your Feeling strengths or ideals, but it could be time to take a closer look at the objective details every now and again, at least as a starting point.

In interpersonal connections
Your Feeling approach might be too much for the Thinkers in your life at times. If you have a Thinker close friend or loved one, they may get disappointed because you can’t or won’t understand the value in their love of data.

In terms of personal growth
Have you ever become so engrossed in your own emotions and ideals, or even compassion for the feelings of others, that you are unable to move ahead to achieve your goals?

Once you’ve determined what’s essential to you and what you want to do about it, you may hire a Thinker to assist you in developing a practical strategy for putting it into action.

What you can do to help
When trying to persuade your Thinking coworkers or friends of the value of your ideas, meet them in the halfway by beginning with the facts. Show them how the solution you offer can be completed on time, under budget, and in accordance with the facts.

Try to understand how their preferences make sense to them, and how your emphasis on emotion and values might make them feel criticized, irritated, or overwhelmed. It’s not always about how you convey your point of view.

When it comes to personal growth, statistics may assist you in living your beliefs. Assume you want to run a marathon to boost your confidence and raise money for a nonprofit organization that is important to you. Your values-based motivations are the driving force behind your aim.

But, in order to make that ambition a reality, you must first collect some data. You must understand the length of a marathon (26.2 miles), create a daily training schedule, understand the geography of the race, and arrive on time.

Though our preferences are normally our strengths, our strengths may sometimes hold us back if we rely too much on one side.
