Nigeria’s Super Falcons will not be lifting a tenth title, just yet, after losing 5-4 on penalties to Morocco on Monday in a game that ended 1-1.


Despite losing two key players to red card offenses in the second half, the Super Falcons dragged the game into extra time and penalties.

After a VAR review found both Halimatu Ayinde and Rasheedat Ajibade to be culpable for dangerous tackles, the team held on for over 50 minutes more before succumbing gallantly to the Atlas Lionesses.
Nigeria will now miss the WAFCON final for the third time since its inception. The previous two occasions resulted in third and fourth place finishes in 2008 and 2012, respectively, with Equatorial Guinea emerging victorious.
Nigeria will face Zambia in a third place match on Friday while both South Africa and Morocco will face off in the final on Saturday for a chance to win a maiden WAFCON title.
