Scarcity of Aviation Fuel: Nigerian Airlines Announce Flight Disruption and Cancellation

FLIGHT RESCHEDULE AND CANCELLATION

Due to a lack of aviation fuel, airlines have declared preparations to disrupt planned aircraft operations.

The operators issued a statement titled ‘Public Notice: Disruptions in Flight Operations’ on Monday, which was signed by company spokesman, Dr Obiora Okonkwo.

The operators expressed concern that a lack of aviation fuel might force flight rescheduling and cancellations.

“The Airline Operators of Nigeria desire to notify the public of anticipated interruptions to planned flight operations of members of the organization,” the message said in part. Members are being forced to make this decision due to the increasing scarcity of aviation fuel known as Jet-Al.

AIRPORT

“The shortage has a detrimental influence on the smooth functioning of air transport operations, resulting in flight rescheduling and/or cancellations.”

“However, the association and its members are working tirelessly, in collaboration with product marketers, the government, and key stakeholders, to assure the availability and correct price of aviation fuel in the nation.”

“While begging for the flying public’s understanding in the face of this reality, we also vow to do all in our ability to restore normal flight schedules as quickly as feasible.”

Last Sunday, May 8, airline operators postponed plans to stop all local flights owing to skyrocketing jet fuel prices just hours before the measure was set to go into effect.

Airlines have been grumbling about having to pay for jet fuel in cash up advance at N700 per litre, a price that would have more than quadrupled by 2022.
