President Buhari directs all ministers seeking elective positions to resign their appointments before Monday 16th of May, 2022

President Muhammadu Buhari has requested that all Ministers running for President in 2023 quit immediately.

He singled out Emeka Nwajiuba, Minister of State for Education, for defying the odds by resigning to avoid a conflict of interest.

MINISTERS

Other Ministers wanting to be Governors, Senators, and House of Representatives members, on the other hand, were scrambling to find out if they were affected.

President said that he has accepted Nwajiuba’s resignation as a candidate for President.

“I expect other members of this council vying to be President to resign immediately,” he stated.

“We were unsure whether this decision would affect other ministers hoping to be governors, Senators, or House of Representatives members,” a cabinet insider added.

“We anticipate further explanations shortly.”

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. Timipreye Sylva, and the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio are among the candidates.
