Phil Foden Wins Premier League Young Player of the Year.

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has been awarded Premier League Young Player of the Season; Declan Rice and Mason Mount were among those considered for the accolade.

FODEN

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden has been named the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season for the second year running.

Foden, who won the award in 2020/21, has already equaled his previous season’s performance, scoring nine goals and providing five assists while rising in significance for the squad under manager Pep Guardiola.

Foden, still just 21, missed the first month of the season due to a foot ailment, but he recovered to demonstrate his immense potential, beating off Chelsea’s Mason Mount and West Ham’s Declan Rice.

Guardiola stated earlier this month that there is no reason why his playmaker cannot improve more in the future years.
“Phil has no trouble accepting responsibility. Going to greater stages, bigger settings, and crucial games has never been an issue (for him). He enjoys playing.

“He can play all five positions up front: winger on both wings, striker through the middle, and attacking midfielder in the pockets.

“I believe that in time, he will be more capable of playing in places in the center; he still has all of the actions and the fast speed, so perhaps the wide positions would suit him better.

“When I first saw him at the Academy at 16/17 years old when I got here, he played in a position similar to Kevin De Bruyne and wow, he performed very well, but all the motions are so, so rapid.

“Remember David Silva? He occasionally lowered the beat to boost the rhythm (but Phil’s rhythm is always fast).

“It’s fantastic because he’s so active and we need it, but he occasionally needs a little more, but that’s a matter of time. It’s simply a matter of time before he can accomplish it.”
