AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the emir of Ilorin, and Dr. Bukola Saraki, the former president of the senate, have all expressed their condolences over the deaths of Sheikh Abdulganiyu Nuraini and his two aides in the state’s devastating flooding.
The popularly known cleric Alfa Gani Aboto was traveling from a da’awah event in Minna, Niger State, with his assistants Alfa Azeez Omoekun and Alfa Nurudeen when the flood swept away his Toyota Yaris car as he attempted to cross a bridge near Harmony Estate/Kukende in the Akerebiata neighborhood of Ilorin.
On Saturday, October 1, 2022, the state fire service pulled the victims’ bodies from a river next to Olusola Saraki Abattoir on Sobi Army Barracks Road in Ilorin.
Sheikh Kamaldeen Al-Adabiy, the first Mufti of Ilorin and founder of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, was a student of the late sheik. He was also a hafeedh and the state’s leading trainer of Quran memorizers.
After a janazah in Ilorin, his corpse was transferred to his village of Aboto, Asa LGA of the state, on Sunday.
The death of the popular Muslim preacher and his assistants was termed as startling and sad by the state governor in a statement issued by Rafiu Ajakaye, his Chief Press Secretary.
