Ms Adekunbi Ogunde, a partner in the law firm of Wole Olanipekun & Co., was accused by the Nigerian Bar Association of violating the rule of practice and took a leave of absence from legal practice on Wednesday.
On June 20, Ogunde requested a brief from SAIPEM Contracting Nigeria Ltd, which had previously hired the law firm of Henry Ajumogobia, SAN. As a result, the NBA requested that the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee take disciplinary action against her.
Ogunde stated in a statement titled, ‘My email correspondence of June 20, 2022, and subsequent events,’ that the firm had taken disciplinary action against her, contrary to popular belief.
She also expressed regret that her June 27 statement, in which she admitted and clarified that the firm’s founding partner, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, and others were unaware of her actions, failed to defuse tensions.
The lawyer went on to say that, while it may appear that no corrective action had been taken by herself or the firm “in terms of discipline, education, reform, and rehabilitation concerning me.” I’d like to state that the firm took such steps but did not believe they should be publicized.
She stated that she is leaving law practice for the time being after extensive consultation with her family and the firm and thorough investigation of the matter.
