The publisher of Desert Herald was detained last week by Interpol when he and his two wives and two boys were waiting for a connecting aircraft to Saudi Arabia for Umrah (the lesser hajj).
Mamu was taken into custody for 24 hours in Cairo before being deported to Nigeria via the Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano State, where the DSS later picked him up and kept him in custody.
According to a family source, Sani Ningi’s legal team attempted to visit the detainee at the DSS headquarters in Abuja but was turned away.
