Wizkid – Made In Lagos Album Evaluation:
“Made in Lagos” is a standout album in the afrobeats genre, with its smooth, relaxed sound setting it apart from many of the more upbeat and dance-oriented afrobeats releases. Wizkid’s vocals are soulful and emotive, and he is backed by a strong group of musicians who bring a rich, organic feel to the music. The album’s strengths lie in its musicality, with the live instrumentation giving the songs a warmth and depth that is missing from many contemporary pop productions.
One of the standout tracks on the album is “Blessed,” which features Wizkid reflecting on his success and gratitude for the blessings in his life. The song’s instrumentation is minimal, with a simple guitar riff carrying the melody, and Wizkid’s vocals taking center stage. The song’s lyrics are heartfelt and relatable, with lines like “I’m thankful for the life that I’m living, all the love that I’m giving” resonating with listeners.
Another standout track is “Smile,” a reggae-infused song that features American singer H.E.R. The song’s melody is infectious, and Wizkid and H.E.R.’s voices complement each other perfectly. The song’s lyrics focus on the power of love and how it can lift one’s spirits in tough times.
Overall, “Made in Lagos” is an excellent album that showcases Wizkid’s musical prowess and his ability to blend different genres into a cohesive sound. While the album may not be as danceable or high-energy as some other afrobeats releases, it makes up for it with its musicality and introspective lyrics.
